I run a homebrew campaign with a bunch of people and a surprising amount were invested in it; I wound up implementing a ton of content enough that after about 8-9 months of gameplay one of the two parties is only getting out of one of the regions on one of the maps in the gallery.
Some of the maps exist in separate dimensions while others exist in the same plane of existence.
Maps in the same world: Center Continent, West Continents, East Continents, Northern Continents
The maps are typically color coated and divided into regions based off things like "what creatures primarily live in this region" and "what is the region like" likewise there are major settlements and capital cities marked on the maps.
The stars represent capital cities, the diamonds represent large settlements.
